REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL), an entirely owned subsidiary of REC Limited under the Ministry of Power, has handed over three Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) of Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) projects to Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL). The handover was completed in Gurugram, a major milestone in India's power grid expansion.

These projects will be developed under the BOOT model. The SPVs Banaskantha Transco Limited, Kurnool-IV Transmission Limited, and Rajasthan V Power Transmission Limited were awarded to PGCIL on the basis of Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding conducted by RECPDCL.

T.S.C. Bosh, RECPDCL CEO, formally handed over the SPVs to Pankaj Pandey, PGCIL Executive Director, in a ceremony attended by senior officials of RECPDCL, PGCIL, and the Central Transmission Utility of India Limited.

Banaskantha Transco project entails increasing transformation capacity at the Banaskantha (Raghanesda) Pooling Station by 2×500 MVA, 400/220 kV transformers for an estimated cost of Rs 143.35 crore. Kurnool-IV project comprises a 4×1500 MVA, 765/400 kV and 4×500 MVA, 400/220 kV pooling station at Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, and 765 kV transmission lines of more than 500 km, which will cost an estimated Rs 4,727.05 crore. Rajasthan V Power Transmission will implement transmission systems to evacuate 4 GW of power from Sirohi and Merta-II pooling stations at an estimated cost of Rs 4,736.23 crore.

The projects, with a completion target of 24 months, are likely to strengthen India's power transmission infrastructure considerably.
