Ar. Savneet Kaur,FounderSaveet Kaur, an architect turned entrepreneur established Imarat Architects in the year 1994. Having a strong background in architecture, she always aspired to make a difference in the construction in-dustry through innovative ideas. With this vision, she stepped into the green consulting domain, constructing structures based on Green building principles. Established in the nineties, the company became instrumental in shaping the skyline of the urban estate of the city which started developing at the time. It has since earned a formidable reputation for energy-conscious homes and aesthetical designs. The focus of the firm is on green architecture and energy conservation. In the recent past, the architects at Imarat have collaborated and worked with Kangra based America born architect Didi Contractor. Currently, it is taking ground-breaking steps to promote these eco-friendly construction techniques in Punjab and Haryana.

The Idea behind Imarat
Understanding the importance and need for environmental sustainability, Savneet pursued her Masters in Sustainable Development which incited her to transform Imarat as a leading firm that incorporates sustainable architecture. Savneet is among the first architects to join The Indian Green Building Council. She has also closely worked with TERI (Tata Energy Research Institute) - one of the world's pre-eminent think tanks and research institutions in the field of energy, climate change and sustainability. Possessing such an enormous experience, this energetic entrepreneur marked Imarat as one of the pioneer organization to practice Green Consultancy in Northern India. Recently, she was awarded "The Best
Architect in Sustainable Architecture" by the IIA (Indian Institute of Architects) in collaboration with the Times of India group.

Imarat Architects's team of dedicated professionals has jointly launched another venture called MISAAL: Maati Initiatives for Sustainability in Architecture, Agriculture and Lifestyle. This foundation comprises architects such as Parul Zaveri (Abhikram Architects), Lara K Davis (Auroville Earth Institute), Andrea Klinge (ZRS Architects, Berlin), and Mark Moore (USA) (Founder Dharmalaya Institute for Compassionate living) all over the country and abroad, who are doing credible work in green architecture.

Initiatives to Scale Up & Spread Sustainability
Imarat is organizing seminars to spread awareness on Green Homes. The major objective of these seminars and workshops is to educate builders, technicians, and homeowners for adapting Green Building techniques in construction to live sustainably. As Savneet exclaims "Honesty, sincerity, commitment to ethical practice have been the hallmarks of Imarat Architects. We lead by example and inspire the next generation through hard work and commitment to Sustainability."

Besides, the company supports green Architectural Projects and has initiated to include this in Research and Educational domains to educate the next generation of its environmental benefits. Considering this the company has brought Professional Practice in Architecture and Sustainable Development program which was designed for architects and students with practical knowledge of Sustainable building.

The company also owns a module called Imarat Center for Earthen Architecture which is a centre for learning and training students in earthen architecture and sustainable techniques, most of all it empowers students and young graduates to construct eco-friendly buildings with beings major changes in the society.

What Lies Ahead?

Imarat aims to develop a building vocabulary of materials and techniques which caters to contemporary tastes, yet derives its roots from the vernacular architecture of the place. Moreover, it is involved in active research to promote construction materials and technology which is environment-friendly and locally available. It is also taking various measures to develop shelters that are affordable, aesthetical and eco-friendly.
