KPS Legal started its journey in 2012, on an intriguing-note. While representing Customs, Excise and Service Tax departments before the CESTAT (Customs, Excise Service Tax Appellate Tribunal), the founding members realized that just for lack of knowledge on the part of Importers/Exporters/Assessee, they were losing many of their cases. Having worked in these domains for 20-35 years, the seasoned professionals could easily understand the details of the law and the procedures within a minute, as compared to the other consultants/lawyers who did not have any experience of working with Customs. Interestingly, KPS fitting right in the picture had a professional advantage, as some of the members of the team had long term experience earlier in the Govt. departments and the CESTAT. This further boosted their confidence for starting the profession of legal consultancy/advocacy. KPS Legal was born!

Within a short span of two-three months of legal practice, they realized that due to increasing numbers of clients, day-by-day, the firm required expansion and it started onboarding many more experienced, and highly qualified personnel.

When it comes to Team KPS, it includes former Vice-Chairman of Settlement Commission, Chief Commissioners, Dy./Asstt. Commissioner among other senior members who have worked closely with the Govt. for more than two decades. Mumbai-based KPS Legal has come a long way from where it all started. Today, along with its other Group Company ‘KPS Tax Consultants,’ the firm has provided its expertise legal and consultancy services to more than 1000 corporates/ MNC clients, PAN India.

Initially started with the Customs, Central Excise and Service Tax Practice/ legal consultancy, currently, the company has transformed into providing services in the other area of operation which includes Income Tax, GST, DRI, DGFT, international trade, FEMA, NCLT, DRT, Banking & Finance Regulations, IPR, Arbitration, Civil Suits and Real Estate Laws among others. In addition to this, KPS Legal started legal practice from Adjudicating Authority but now fights cases before Tribunals, High Courts and Supreme Court too.

Beguilingly, from an annual turnover of a few lakhs of rupees during the initial stages to increasing manifolds, KPS Legal’s growth story has been exemplary. Started with two members, today, the team has grown to have 30+ key persons. In a short span of seven years, it has expanded its presence to Pune, Nashik, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkatta, Surat, and Ahmedabad.

The Expansion Phase
